The Beginner Salsa class introduces you to the rhythm and timing of the music, as well as to technique in leading and following. You will learn basic footwork, dance positions and connections between partners. We will teach you fun and easy dance patterns that include single right turns, single left turns, cross body leads, back breaks (Cumbia), and ladies 1 ˝ right and left turns. Most of the material in this class will not be repeated each series. No dance experience is required.

This class is an introduction to our Salsa Level 2. In this class we mainly cover technique in leading and following as well as dance patterns that incorporate cross body leads and ladies ˝ turns; it will be very similar to the last 4 weeks of a Salsa Level 1 series. In addition, basic men's and women's styling is introduced. The only requirement to join in on this class is that you have taken a complete Salsa Level 1 series at least once. This class is taught as a 4-week series.

The Beginner/ Intermediate Salsa class will help you build upon the basics learned in Level 1. You will be introduced to intermediate variations and patterns to supplement your dancing. Men's and women's styling will be incorporated in all combinations taught. The material taught in this class will not be repeated from series to series. The only requirement to join in on this class is that you have taken a complete Salsa Level 1 series at least once or by instructor approval.

In the Advanced Salsa class you will learn more complex variations of patterns, syncopated footwork, double turns, 2 ˝ turns, as well as men's and ladies' styling. Combinations learned in this class will not be repeated each series.

This class is an introduction to the principles of authentic Latin dancing. The class is focused around basic body rhythms inherent in Cumbia, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata and Cha-Cha-Cha. We will cover the fundamentals of leading and following, as well as introduce you to dance patterns for each Latin dance style. Every month, the class will focus on one of the five Latin Club Dances - Merengue, Salsa Styling, Bachata, Cumbia, and Cha-Cha-Cha, which are the most popular dance styles seen at Latin clubs today. No dance experience is required.

In the Ladies Styling class you will learn how to add grace, femininity, & flare to your Latin dancing. We will teach you choreography that focuses on arm & leg styling, body isolation technique, footwork/shines, hand & foot placements, and much more. You will also learn how to incorporate styling in your partner dancing, as you will gain confidence and improve the fluidity of your body movements. Ladies of all levels are welcome!

In the Student Dance Team Class class students will have the opportunity to be trained by us as well as travel to and perform at different venues/events. Students for this class will be chosen from our Salsa Level 3 Class on Monday nights and may join by instructor invitation only. If you are chosen to be part of this Student Dance Team you will receive an invitation via e-mail and will be required to sign a basic contract, if you choose to join.

Our Beginner Hustle class will teach you the rhythm and timing of the music, as well as focus on technique in leading and following. We will go over basic footwork as well as common dance positions and connections between partners. You will quickly learn fun and simple dance patterns that include both ladies and men's turns, along with arm and leg styling. Hustle, also known as disco, is easy to learn and can be danced everywhere, including ballrooms, nightclubs, Latin clubs, parties, and wedding receptions. No partner is required and no dance experience is necessary. This class will be taught as a progressive, 4-week series.

CHA CHA CHA

Salsa is a very popular dance form in Latin America, the United States and Europe. The dance and music developed largely in New York City during the late 1960's. It's name is derived from the Spanish word for "hot sauce". Salsa is a mixture of various elements: Rhumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, as well as other Latin dance forms such as Afro-Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican, and other Latin American strains.

Salsa's most direct antecedent is the Cuban Son Montuno, which has a combination of African and European influences. During the 1980's the style also became popular in Miami as well as in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Colombia. There are different dance styles of Salsa - Cuban Style, Colombian Style, New York Style, L.A. Style, and Puerto Rican Style.

Apart from percussion, a variety of melodic instruments are commonly used as accompaniment, such as a guitar, trumpets, trombones, the piano, and many others, all depending on the performing artists. Puerto Rico's predominant Spanish background mixed with Cuba's African, Andalucian and indigenous peoples to form the basis of Salsa music, beginning with Arsenio Rodriguez, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Perez Prado, Machito and Felix Chapottin in the 1940's.

Merengue is a lively, joyful, and up-beat type of dance. Dancing to Merengue consists of a quick two-step. The rhythm of Merengue is traditionally created from instruments such as the tambora, guira, and accordion.

Merengue comes to us from the Dominican Republic. Its origins, however, are still disputed by many, and they can be traced back as far as the second half of the 18th century. Learning to dance Merengue is great if you're looking to improve your hip motion!.

Cumbia is a Colombian folk dance that popularized in the 1950's across Latin America, especially in Mexico. It has been said that Cumbia evolved from three distinct cultures that settled in Colombia at different times in history: indigenous peoples, the Spanish/Moorish, and African slaves. Some claim that Cumbia began as a courtship dance among the slave population.

This rhythmic dance has now spread internationally, and is highly popular in the Latin music scene. The instruments used to create Cumbia music include guitars, accordions, brass, and deep-toned drums, as well as other percussion instruments. The basic rhythm structure of Cumbia is a repetitive count of 4 beats.

Bachata is a sensual and sexy dance that originated in the countryside and rural, marginal neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic in the 1960's. The lyrics of Bachata songs are usually romantic and the body movements and steps of the dance are comparable to the Lambada.

Bachata music is produced with the use of electronic instruments. The guitar, however, plays a major role in creating its characteristic rhythm. Bachata was influenced by Rhumba and Son, yet still holds its own distinctive sound.

Cha Cha Cha is an exciting Latin dance that originated in the 1950's, as a slowed down Mambo. The Cha Cha Cha gathers its personality, character, rhythm, basis, and charm from the major dance sources. It is a derivation of the Mambo through its Latin music, and is also a stepchild of the Swing as it is danced to a 1-2-3-step rhythm. The term Cha Cha comes from Haiti, where it referred to a component of a bell that made a ""Cha Cha"" noise when it was rubbed. The device was kept and used as an instrument.
